Asian Art Museum | San Francisco | Travel Photography
June 2017. Betty and I spent a Saturday morning visiting Asian Art Museum. On display through September 16, 2016 is Emperor's Treasure, Chinese Art from the National Palace Museum in Taipei. I visited the National Palace Museum years ago when I went back to visit Taipei.
One of the two most famous treasure in the museum's collection is a rock that looks like a piece pork belly. It is on displayed at the Asian Art Museum. Unfortunately photos were not allowed. The rock really looked like pork belly that you might find in a Asian dish. Click here for a photo of the rock. The other most famous treasure is a jade cabbage with a grasshopper is not on display here.
Although I lived in the Bay Area my whole life (except for the first two years and 4 years during college), this was my first visit to the museum.
The interior is quite impressive.
There are three floors. The first floor displays the Emperor's Treasures with the upper floors displaying permanent asian art pieces.
Interesting modern pieces of work.
If you're able to visit it, do it! RC
